Captain Hancock's Tribute

REVEREND, CLERGY, FAMILY MEMBERS, HONORED GUESTS, AND FRIENDS; I AM HERE TODAY ON BEHALF OF RONNIE’S CO-WORKERS: THE OFFICERS AND CIVILIANS OF THE SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS SECTION.

IT HAS BEEN OUR HONOR, PRIVILEGE, AND JOY TO HAVE WORKED WITH MASTER CORPORAL RONALD G. WILLIAMS, JR. #653 FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS.  HE DIDN’T JUST DO THIS JOB, HE LIVED THIS JOB 24 HOURS PER DAY, 7 DAYS PER WEEK.   SIMPLY PUT, HE WAS THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST.

UPON ARRIVING AT SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS, HE INITIALLY WORKED IN THE NORTH DRUG UNIT.  BUT, AS THE SIZE AND SCOPE OF HIS INVESTIGATIONS QUICKLY GREW, HE BECAME INVOLVED IN A SERIES OF SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS THAT WERE NEEDED TO ACCOMMODATE THE WORK HE WAS DOING. THESE ASSIGNMENTS TOOK HIM TO ATF, FBI, AND THEN DEA. FBI HEADQUARTERS HAD JUST ASKED HIM TO SIT ON A NATIONAL PANEL OF EXPERTS TO ASSESS AN EVOLVING ORGANIZED CRIME TREND.

LAST WEEK, HE RETURNED TO THE NORTH DRUG UNIT SO HE COULD WORK MORE CLOSELY WITH THE INTELLIGENCE SECTION ON WHAT HE DID BEST: COMMAND AND CONTROL INVESTIGATIONS OF DRUG TRAFFICKING ORGANIZATIONS.

WHEN IT CAME TO WORK, RONNIE WAS ALWAYS VERY SERIOUS AND FOCUSED.  HE GAVE AND DEMANDED SUBSTANCE AND OFTEN USED THE TERM, “THE REAL DEAL,” TO DESCRIBE PEOPLE OF SUBSTANCE.

BUT, THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN WORK.  WHEN HE MARRIED NICOLE, EVERYTHING JUST CAME TOGETHER.  THE LEVEL OF JOY THAT CAME FROM THEIR MARRIAGE WENT TO AN EVEN HIGHER LEVEL WITH THE BIRTH OF CORA.  CORA WAS THE MISSING PIECE THAT MADE HIS LIFE COMPLETE.

THE LAST DOCUMENT TO GO IN RON’S FILE, ON FRIDAY, WAS A LETTER FROM DAVIS SEZNA THANKING HIM FOR HIS ASSISTANCE IN ORGANIZING 4TH OF JULY OBSERVANCES TO REMEMBER THE EVENTS OF SEPTEMBER 11TH.  THAT WAS SO TYPICAL OF RON.  HE WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE HONOR GUARD AND A TRUE PATRIOT ALTHOUGH THAT WORD IS NOT BIG ENOUGH TO DESCRIBE HIS FEELINGS TOWARD BEING AN AMERICAN.

IN SPEAKING WITH RON’S AND NICOLE’S FAMILIES, WE LEARNED OF HIS HUMILITY IN THAT HE RARELY SPOKE OF HIS WORK AND THOSE CLOSEST TO HIM DID NOT HAVE A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT HE DID.  WHAT HE DID WAS: CAUSE GREAT HARM TO DRUG TRAFFICKING ORGANIZATIONS.  THAT HARM WILL CONTINUE FOR GENERATIONS.

WE ALSO LEARNED FROM RON’S FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF HIS LOVE FOR FRANK SINATRA’S MUSIC.  IF WE COULD HEAR RONNIE SPEAK TODAY, I AM SURE THAT HE WOULD LOOK BACK ON HIS LIFE AND SAY,
“I DID IT MY WAY.”

RONNIE, YOU ARE THE REAL DEAL, YOU HAVE BEEN A GOOD FRIEND TO ALL OF US AND WE WILL MISS YOU MORE WITH EVERY PASSING DAY.

NICOLE, CORA, AND ALL FAMILY MEMBERS; WE ARE HERE FOR YOU TODAY, TOMORROW, AND FOREVER.
THANK YOU.
